Our Izod impact tester is a digital cantilever beam impact testing instrument complying with ISO 180. It is widely used to determine the Izod impact strength of rigid plastics, reinforced composites and non-metallic materials. Different pendulum options and custom specimen fixtures are available to meet your laboratory test requirements.
The Izod impact tester is a commonly used method for measuring the impact resistance or "toughness" of materials, especially plastics. During testing, a pendulum impacts the clamped specimen, and the impact resistance of the material is evaluated by calculating the energy lost when the pendulum breaks the specimen.
A notched specimen is clamped vertically with the notch facing the pendulum striker. Released from a fixed lift angle of 150°, the pendulum strikes the specimen at 3.5 m/s. The absorbed energy is measured automatically and reported as Izod impact strength in kJ/m² in accordance with ISO 180.
