This digital pendulum Izod impact tester is designed for determining the Izod (cantilever beam) impact strength of rigid plastics in accordance with ISO 180. It is equipped with an imported high-resolution angular encoder that automatically calculates impact energy and test results, making it suitable for incoming and outgoing inspection, material R&D, and laboratory quality control.
During testing, a notched specimen is clamped vertically at one end in a cantilever configuration. The pendulum is released from a fixed lift angle of 150 degrees and strikes the specimen at 3.5 m/s on the face behind the notch. The energy absorbed by the specimen is derived from the difference in pendulum potential energy before and after fracture, and is then divided by the remaining cross-sectional area behind the notch to obtain the impact strength result.
The machine adopts an imported high-resolution angular encoder to directly measure the lift angle and residual swing angle. Energy-absorption calculation, friction and windage loss correction, unit conversion, and average-value statistics are all completed automatically, eliminating interpolation errors caused by traditional mechanical dial reading.

Choose the Izod (ISO 180) configuration if your project follows American standards, tests injection-moulded components, or requires cantilever impact simulation.
Select the Charpy (ISO 179) configuration for European compliance, fibre-filled plastic sheets, or high-volume routine testing where fast sample changes are required.
Both methods measure the impact toughness of rigid plastics, but the test geometry differs.
