The DIN Abrasion Tester is designed to determine the wear resistance of elastic materials, rubber, tires, conveyor belts, shoe soles, soft synthetic leather, and other similar materials.
Under predetermined contact pressure and a given area, the specimen is tested with sandpaper angled to measure abrasion resistance. The specimen undergoes rubbing on sandpaper affixed to the surface of a drum. The sample is pressed against the drum with sandpaper and moves laterally along the roller. Abrasion resistance is produced at one end of the cylindrical specimen, and the test measures the mass loss of the specimen. The volume abrasion is calculated using the specimen's density.
