This digital pendulum Izod impact tester is used to determine the Izod cantilever-beam impact strength of rigid plastics in compliance with ISO 180. Equipped with an imported high-resolution angular encoder, it automatically calculates impact energy and test results for incoming-outgoing inspection, material R&D and laboratory quality control.
This digital pendulum Izod impact tester is designed for determining the Izod (cantilever beam) impact strength of rigid plastics in accordance with ISO 180.
During testing, a notched specimen is clamped vertically at one end in a cantilever configuration. The pendulum is released from a fixed lift angle of 150 degrees and strikes the specimen at 3.5 m/s on the face behind the notch. The energy absorbed by the specimen is derived from the difference in pendulum potential energy before and after fracture, and is then divided by the remaining cross-sectional area behind the notch to obtain impact strength results.
The machine adopts an imported high-resolution angular encoder to directly measure lift angle and residual swing angle. Energy-absorption calculation, friction and windage loss correction, unit conversion and average-value statistics are completed automatically. It eliminates interpolation errors caused by traditional mechanical dial reading.
It is widely applicable for incoming and outgoing inspection at plastics raw-material and moulding plants, material formulation development, third-party testing laboratories and university laboratories.

Both methods measure the impact toughness of rigid plastics, but the test geometry differs. Test results cannot be interchanged. Our UP-3014 can support both Izod and Charpy testing by changing fixtures.
