Compliant with ASTM D4970 and other international standards, the UP-1006 Martindale Abrasion and Pilling Tester evaluates the wearing resistance, abrasion, and appearance change (pilling degree/class) of textiles and membrane materials. This 4-position bench-top instrument subjects circular specimens to defined loads against abrasive media in precise translational movements.
The Martindale abrasion tester subjects a circular specimen (38mm diameter, 28.8mm effective diameter) to a defined load and rubs against an abrasive medium (standard fabric) in a translational movement tracing a Lissajous figure. The specimen holder is freely rotatable around its own axis perpendicular to the horizontal plane.
Evaluation of abrasion resistance is determined from inspection interval to breakdown, mass loss of test specimens, and assessment of appearance change.
