It simulates real-world thermal stress by rapidly transferring test specimens between two separate zones—one hot and one cold—within seconds.
Typically, the hot zone ranges from +50°C to +200°C or higher, while the cold zone can drop to -65°C. The chamber employs either a two-zone or three-zone configuration: in a two-zone system, a moving basket physically shifts samples between zones; in a three-zone design, a central test area is alternately exposed to hot or cold air via dampers.
This rapid cycling induces thermal expansion and contraction, helping identify potential failures such as cracking, delamination, or seal leakage.
