This dual-functional impact tester supports bothIzod impact test and Charpy impact test for polymer materials. Although both tests adopt pendulum impact principle to detect material impact toughness, they have obvious differences in sample fixing method, test structure and application focus.
1. Charpy Impact Test (Simply Supported Beam)
In Charpy test, the specimen is horizontally placed with both ends freely supported and the middle section suspended without clamping. The pendulum strikes the middle of the sample to evaluate the bending impact resistance and overall structural toughness of materials. It is widely used for testing rigid plastics, plastic sheets and composite plates, suitable for assessing the anti-impact performance of finished structural parts.

2. Izod Impact Test (Cantilever Beam)
In Izod test, the specimen is vertically clamped at the bottom with the upper end suspended. The pendulum impacts the suspended end of the sample. This method is more sensitive to material brittleness and crack propagation, ideal for testing engineering plastics such as ABS, nylon, and glass-fiber reinforced materials. It is commonly used for material formula verification and brittleness evaluation.

Charpy test focuses on overall bending impact strength of materials, while Izod test focuses on local crack resistance and brittleness performance.
The integrated design realizes two testing functions in one machine, meeting full-standard testing requirements of ISO 179, ISO 180, ASTM D256 and ASTM D6110 for plastic and polymer materials.
